An Invitation
To Rise Up
What does it take to root deep in the Earth so that we may rise to meet these great times of epochal change we are living in? As Animists, aware of our deep connections to land and all life on this planet, we cannot be blind to the socio-political and environmental challenges of these times. Some might ask, ‘why am I alive right now?’ or ‘what do I have to offer?’ The old ones would say it is because we have a gift to offer, a capacity that our world needs.
We are not the first peoples to live through great and difficult change. The myths and history of all Indigenous cultures recall memories of such times and guidance on how to meet them.
‘If we surrendered to earth’s intelligence we could rise up rooted, like trees.’
Rainer Maria Rilke
For this gathering, Lyla June Johnson (Diné tradition from Turtle Island) and Angharad Wynne (Brythonic tradition from the British Isles) bring the weight of their lineages’ learning and experience to help explore this very necessary territory and guide us through processes to help heal and empower, root deep and rise purposefully, with clear intention.
The weekend will involve mythopoetic exploration, deep, contemplative process, dreaming, intention setting, songs and stories. Together we will heal our world weary, grieving souls, lean into our connection with the web of all life and find the tools and courage to rise like trees, with clarity, compassion and renewed purpose.
Your Guides
The lead guides for this programme are Angharad Wynne and Lyla June Johnston.
Lyla June
Dr. Lyla June Johnston is an Indigenous musician, scholar, and community organizer of Diné (Navajo), Tsétsêhéstâhese (Cheyenne) and European lineages.
Her messages focus on Indigenous rights, supporting youth, traditional land stewardship practices and healing inter-generational and inter-cultural trauma.
She blends her study of Human Ecology at Stanford, graduate work in Indigenous Pedagogy, and the traditional worldview she grew up with to inform her music, perspectives and solutions.
Angharad Wynne
Angharad carries the indigenous wisdom tradition of the British Isles and weaves it with ecology, philosophy, creativity and contemporary animism practice. As a ceremonialist, teacher, author, speaker and Cyfarwydd, she explores the territory of reclaiming our deep humanity and re-membering a reciprocal relationship with the land, the seen and unseen.
Angharad is Director of Dreaming the Land, a founder of Animate Earth Collective and proud to be a member of the Wisdom Keepers Collective. She is co-author, with Sharon Blackie, of ‘Wise Women’, published by Virago.
