The Serpent's Circle

The Serpent’s Circle

With Naomi Lewis & Rachel Fleming

Rites of passage, the shedding of skin, the moments in which we experience a death to our present selves and a wakening to an expanded sense of who we are, are no longer a conscious part of our contemporary experience. What would rites of passage look like in our times, for those of any age seeking an expanded and deeper relating with the pulsating eros of the world and the more than human we share it with.

Using the ancient alchemical glyph of the Ouroborous, the serpent who swallows their tail, as a potent symbol of death and rebirth, we invite you to join us for discussion and practice, the beginning of a new and old way, one that promises fresh ground, deeper immersion, emergent territories of experience, within the circle and the commune of the serpent.

We need a circuit breaker. A fresh start. The contained encounter with death that every whole and healthy culture has ever given its young people so they can find the courage to set down the insecurities of childhood and step with confidence into the commonwealth of adults“. Manda Scott, Any Human Power, 2024

Naomi Lewis

Naomi Lewis has been facilitating animistic practice for 20 years. Working both in the UK and abroad she is committed to creating freedom-scapes for everyone and lab spaces for creatives, including actors, dancers, writers and directors seeking an Earth-based expansion in their work. Her ethic is centred around helping participants be in service to nature and the planet, stepping outside singularity into a collective experience, where we remember we are part of the art of the whole. She enjoys creating irreverently reverent spaces of deep exploration and journeying, punctuated by mindful foolishness and connection.

Rachel Fleming

Rachel Fleming has worked with animist education for many years, designing and delivering educational programmes for Schumacher College, University of Wales Trinity St Davids and Embercombe, with a focus on the meeting place between human, spirit and nature, between ‘ecology’ and ‘spirituality’. She is co-founder and curator of the Contemporary Animism programmes and loves to convene conversations that explore the deepest depths of why we are here, the ways we find belonging to the world and how to be in service to soul. She is committed to scholarship, word magic, creative imagination and the medicine of circles.
